MUSCLES NECK

The muscles of the neck region in a didactic manner can be divided into 5 regions:

Anterior Neck Region:

PLATISM

Platisma muscle Superior Insertion: Lower jaw face, lower cheek skin and corner of mouth

Lower Insertion: Fascia that covers the upper parts of the pectoralis major and deltoid muscles

Innervation: Cervical Branch of Facial Nerve (7th Cranial Pair)

Action: Traction of the lower lip and buccal angle, partially opening the mouth (expression of horror). Pulls the skin over the collarbone toward the jaw.

 

 

 

Hyoid Bone Region & #8211; Supra musclesHyoid

1. DIGASTRIC

Superior Insertion
:

Digastric Muscle Anterior Belly: Digastric Fossa of the Jaw

Posterior Womb: Mastoid Process

Lower Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Innervation: Facial Nerve (Posterior Womb) and Mandibular Nerve (Anterior Womb)

Action: Hyoid Bone Lift and Lower Jaw (mouth opening). The anterior belly pulls the hyoid bone forward and the posterior belly backwards.

Lower Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Innervation: Facial Nerve (VII Cranial Pair)

Action: Hyoid Bone Lifting and Retraction.

 

 

Myeloid muscle3. MILOIÓDEO

Superior Insertion: Jaw milohyoid line

Lower Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Innervation: Mandibular Nerve (Trigeminal Nerve Branch & #8211; V cranial pair)

Action: Elevation of Hyoid bone and Tongue.

 

 

4. GENIOID

IGenioiodeo muscleHigher Insert: Mental Spine of the Jaw

Lower Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Innervation: Hypoglossal Nerve (C1)

Action: Anterior Traction of the Hyoid Bone and Tongue.

Superior Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Lower Insertion: Back side of
sternal and medial clavicle ¼

Innervation: Branches of Cervical Loop (N. of Hipoglosso) with C1 to C3 fibers

Sternothyroid muscle2. STERNOTHYROID

Superior Insertion: Thyroid Cartilage

Lower Insertion: Posterior face of the sternum manubrium

Innervation: Branches of Cervical Loop (N. of Hipoglosso) with C1 to C3 fibers

 Thyroid muscle3. THYROID

Upper Insertion: Greater Horn of Hyoid Bone

Lower Insertion: Thyroid Cartilage

Innervation: Hypoglossal Nerve (C1 and C2)

Omoiode muscle4. OMOIOID

Superior Insertion: Hyoid Bone Body

Lower Insertion: Upper edge of the shoulder blade

Innervation: Branches of Cervical Loop (N. of Hipoglosso) with C1 to C3 fibers

Neck Side Region

1. STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID

Sternocleidomastoid MuscleSuperior Insertion: Mastoid process and upper nuchal line

Lower Insertion: Anterior aspect of the sternum manubrium near the superior aspect and anterior edge
1/3 of the medial collarbone

Innervation: C2, C3 and Spinal Part of Accessory Nerve (11th Cranial Pair)

Action:

* Fixed Superiorly: Inspirational Action

* Fixed Lower:

Unilateral Contraction: Flexion, Homolateral Tilt and Rotation Facing Opposite

Bilateral contraction: Head flexion.

 

Anterior Scalene Muscle2. PREVIOUS SCALE

Upper Insertion: Anterior tubercles of the transverse processes of the 3rd to 6th cervical vertebrae

Lower Insertion: Upper face of 1st rib (tubercle of anterior scalene)

Innervation: Branches of the lower cervical nerves

Action: First Rib Elevation and Homolateral Neck Tilt & #8211; Inspirational action.

Middle Scalene Muscle3. MIDDLE SCALE

Superior Insertion: Anterior tubercles of transverse processes of the 2nd to 7th cervical vertebrae

Lower Insertion: Upper side of 1st rib

Innervation: Branches of the lower cervical nerves

Action: First Rib Elevation and Homolateral Neck Tilt & #8211; Inspirational action.

Posterior Scalene Muscle4. SUBSEQUENT SCALE

Upper Insertion: Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of the 5th to 7th cervical vertebrae

Lower Insertion: Upper edge of 2nd rib

Innervation: Anterior branches of the last 3 cervical nerves

Action: Second rib elevation and homolateral neck tilt & #8211; Inspirational action

 

Lateral Straight Muscle of the Head

5. SIDE STRAIGHT HEAD

Superior Insertion: Occipital Jugular Process

Lower Insertion: Atlas Transverse Process

Innervation: Branch of the cervical loop between the 1st and 2nd cervical nerves

Action: Homolateral inclination of the head.
