Ethmoid Bone

ETHMOID

It is a light, spongy, irregular, odd bone and is located in the anterior part of the skull.

It has 4 parts:

  • 1 Horizontal Blade (screen)
  • 1 Perpendicular Blade
  • 2 Side Masses (Labyrinths)
 

Horizontal Blade (Sieve)

 Galli Crest & #8211; triangular process in the midline

 Olfactory foramen & #8211; it is located next to the Galli crest and gives way to the olfactory nerves

Perpendicular Blade

 Flat blade forming the median wall of the nasal septum

Side Masses (Labyrinth)

 Uncinated Process

 Upper Nasal Shell

 Middle Nasal Shell

The ethmoid articulates with thirteen bones: Frontal (1), Sphenoid (1), Nasal (2), Lacrimal (2), Jaw (2), Palatine (2), Lower Nasal Shells (2) and the Vömer (1) ).
